CoffeeWalk: Bali

February 6, 2025 · Uluwatu, Indonesia

Down 200 steps, more or less, from town on the top of the cliff to the beach, for coffee. It's 88 degrees with a dew point of 78, so it feels like a sweaty 101. No breeze. My hair is curling up a solid inch or 2 shorter just from the humidity. There are hotels and restaurants all along the way down the steps. It's a fun maze of side staircases. During high tide the water laps against the buildings at the bottom so if you are not at your preferred staircase to go back up, you have to time your run between the waves along the sand between the bars. But that's only at high tide. I took a video of the walk down. And then photos of the walk back up. Video of the trip up would have taken too long, haha.

The task is to get from up here to the beach and the coffee down there. CoffeeWalk: Bali!
Narrow shaded path at the beginning of the descent to Bingin Beach
Starting down the path to the bottom of the cliff. See the video below for the full walk down.
The sped-up walk down to Bingin Beach.
Hot coffee with latte art on a blue saucer overlooking Bingin Beach
Glamour shot. Coffee on the beach. I maybe should have ordered iced coffee. But honestly, it doesn’t get much better than this.

Another glamour shot. The beach at low tide.

At Bingin Beach, Uluwatu. Preparing mentally for the walk back up the stairs. Maybe I should have had 2 coffees.
Steep stone stairs rising between buildings and palm trees
Stairs…
Bright blue double doors beside another flight of stairs
…stairs…
Mossy stairs climbing past carved doors and dense tropical greenery
…and more stairs.
Looking back down a narrow curving staircase between stone walls
Taking a breather and looking back.
Two black-and-white dogs walking along the paved path toward the villa
Some welcome companions as I make my way back to our villa.
A paved path beneath a tunnel of leafy vines and stone walls
Decorated wooden double doors at the villa entrance
Back “home”.
