Well, it's been a minute. We plan to be here in Tokyo for two weeks. I'm hoping to get caught up on my posts as I sip a latte in a cafe. It is considered impolite in Japan to walk around eating or drinking (because it can cause a mess and an inconvenience to others, as I understand it), so #CoffeeWalks are on hiatus. I find this the least admirable custom of the Japanese. 😄 But I guess I'm the barbarian. So here's a collection of sit down coffees.
Hotel room coffee in a half tea bag, half pour-over type contraption. It was decent! At the famous Japanese pancake place, A Happy Pancake. They get points from me for the most luxurious to-go cup lid. So comfortable on the lips. Sad it was only for sipping in-house. How nice it would have been on a walk.I did attempt to order a coffee to go at one point. I wasn’t going to drink it while walking. I was going to carry it back to my hotel. Well, here it is. Bagged and ready. They even stapled the bag shut. They are not messing around. I dutifully carried it back to my hotel room before sipping.A brand I can trust? I never saw this beverage in the PNW. But I have to admit I've never been a grocery store coffee-in-a-can drinker.Fancy schmamcy buffet breaky at The New Otani Hotel. Very civilized. I recommend this hotel if someone else is paying.Coffee & cake is a popular concept here. Coffee shops generally open a little later in the morning (I think because one is not grabbing some quick morning caffeine to get the day going). I think instead people enjoy coffee as a midday break. So for now, I will just have to sit here and eat cake.← All Walks
